SUBACO INTERNATIONAL N.V. is developing a vertically integrated bamboo agro-industrial platform in Suriname — turning the world's fastest-growing renewable resource into engineered timber, clean energy, biochar, and verified carbon credits.
About SUBACO
SUBACO INTERNATIONAL N.V., trading as the Suriname Bamboo Company (SUBACO), is building a first-of-its-kind bamboo agro-industrial platform in Suriname. We regenerate degraded land, protect watersheds, and create a circular industry rooted in environmental stewardship — for Suriname, for the Caribbean, for the planet.
Suriname is home to one of the most intact forest ecosystems on Earth. As the country seeks to diversify beyond oil and gas, SUBACO is positioning bamboo as the cornerstone of a sustainable industrial base that generates measurable climate benefits at scale.
"Suriname has been entrusted with one of the most intact forest ecosystems on Earth. We want to build the counter-balance — an industrial platform that diversifies our economy and produces real, measurable carbon removal at scale."

What We Produce
SUBACO's business model is structurally diversified: one plantation delivers four distinct revenue streams, reducing risk while maximising the environmental and economic return of every hectare cultivated.
Why Surinamese Bamboo?
Suriname's native Guadua bamboo is one of the most productive bamboo species on the planet. It matures faster, weighs more, and yields nearly twice as much per hectare as the Moso strain that dominates the Asian market.
Unlike tropical hardwoods, bamboo reaches harvestable maturity in 3–5 years, making it one of the fastest carbon-sequestering plants on Earth. Combined with Suriname's equatorial climate, fertile soils, and abundant water, SUBACO's plantations are built for world-class productivity.
Harvestable in 3–5 years vs. 25–40 years for tropical hardwood
Native Guadua yields ~2× more biomass per hectare than Asian Moso
Sequesters carbon in timber, biochar, and soil across the full value chain
Planted on degraded land — restores watersheds without clearing forest
Mission & Vision
To build a vertically integrated bamboo agro-industrial platform in Suriname that turns one of the world's fastest-growing renewable resources into engineered building materials, clean energy, and climate-positive products.
We do not exploit the rainforest. We regenerate degraded land, protect watersheds, and build a circular industry rooted in stewardship.
A Suriname — and a Caribbean — where bamboo is the foundation of a thriving, climate-resilient economy: one that proves that environmental responsibility and economic growth are not in conflict, but are one and the same.
